Our Faith

how it all started…

The Coptic Orthodox Church is the ancient Church of Alexandria - one of the 5 original Apostolic See's of Christianity, along with the Church of Antioch, the Church of Jerusalem, the Church of Constantinople, and the Church of Rome. The first Patriarch of Alexandria was Saint Mark the evangelist who preached to Egypt in 49AD. Since then there has been an unbroken line of Patriarch's ordained (affectionately referred to as "Papa" or "Pope"). The Pope of Alexandria is the first among equals with all other bishops of the Church which together make up the Coptic Orthodox Holy Synod. Our Parish in Brisbane is apart of the Diocese of Sydney which currently has Bishop Daniel on its throne.

Orthodoxy is what Christ taught, the apostles preached, and the fathers kept.
— Saint Athanasius, 20th Pope of Alexandria (the 13th Apostle)
